I grew up in a small town called San Pablo located in Northern California known as the Bay Area. Our front door was literally a few miles away from these massive bodies of water with the San Francisco Bay flowing in directly from the Pacific Ocean. This is where my love for seafood began. 

As a young child I recall on Saturday mornings my brother and I would always be looking for things to do. This particular weekend we decided to grab a bucket and head down to the creek nearby to catch crawdads (crawfish). We sold them to my uncles for a few quarters or so then ran to the corner store to buy snacks with the money they gave us. To this day I’m not sure if they really ate them or just entertained us because we really thought we were doing business!  

Fresh red snapper, lobster, crab, and shrimp were regular meals on our table. Mexican food and seafood were paired often. Fish tacos were my absolute favorite. Lorraine's Fish and Poultry was a local restaurant we would frequent often. They had the most golden fried fish and crispy fries you’ll ever see. I still remember that crunch when biting into it. This was a real treat for us since most of our food was baked, steamed, or pan seared. Oh the memories... 

In 2019 on a trip back home I took some awesome pictures in Napa, California not too far from where I grew up. Such beautiful spices and dried herbs 🍃. The aroma was so potent it literally woke up all five senses! Often when I’m preparing food I am reminded of some moment or memory with a familiar smell that somehow takes me back to this locale.
